I'm behind on my blogs, sorry!
June 23, 2009
I woke up at 6am and couldn't fall back asleep (annoying). So I just got up and chilled, ate breakfast. My youngest aunt and I then took the bus and subway system to Sogang University, the school I'm going to be attending for the next six weeks. Everything is so complicated. They don't use bus passes here but credit cards and are charged automatically for bus rides. Then before you get off you have to scan your card again (the scanner can scan through wallets and bags) so you don't get charged for transfers on the subway. I had never been on a subway before so that experience was interesting.
We had to walk around the school a lot while trying to find the administration buildings and it was soooo hot. Afterward we ate lunch and saw The Brothers Bloom; it was an interesting movie about a brother team who spent their whole lives conning people out of their money without them realizing it by creating adventurous and detailed stories. Afterward we went shopping for shoes because I cannot walk around wearing my slippers (flip flops) and my clothes are certainly considered 'old-fashioned' and 'hick.' All the shoes were gorgeous (cheap by normal standards but definitely more than what I pay for shoes) and my aunt kept picking out styles that were silver and gold with little jewels and strappy heels.
The shoes that people wear here casually - going to the market, walking around campus - are all heels. Or really fashionable sneakers (tennis shoes). Even the shoes they wear to work out are fashionable. I can't wear a t-shirt and jeans, and I certainly can't wear anything that shoes skin or chest or shoulders - because then I'm labelled as a slut. Even though the weather is ridiculously hot. I had to leave all my camis at home :(.
Considering the fact that whatever shoes I buy I'll have to wear as I walk around campus and on the subway and stuff, they have to be comfortable. Looks like I have a bit of practicing to do :). Anyway today (June 24, Wednesday), my aunt and I are going to watch Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (before all of you! ha), go shopping, and then meet my oldest aunt for dinner. I got to video chat with my brother and mom for a bit this morning and my youngest aunt got to see my brother too (she misses him a lot). I want her to be able to chat with my mom and stuff but we won't get back until after dinner and by then everyone at home will be sleeping. Downside to time travel, I suppose. Oh well.
